The site has a very prominent rock on the east boundary. This beautiful rock will be integrated so that it does not obstruct the view to the sea and be accentuated as a naturally formed sculpture seen from the road.
The house concept is largely influenced by the prevailing winds, prominent rocks and fynbos on site. Amongst other things that influences the concept are the views, north orientation, building lines, site contours and client prescribed needs.
The views surrounding the site are extraordinary, especially to the north and east, the house concept will be greatly determined by this. The views play an important role in how the house will be orientated, as well as the positions of balconies, doors and windows. To the north one finds the beautiful Hottentots-Holland Mountains. To the east lies a field of fynbos that reaches out towards the vast blue sea with it's white and rocky beach. To the south is Stony Point Nature Reserve, which comprises a curve that forms part of the bay.
This is a blog about the process of designing and building a house. The blog will outline and follow one of EVA architects' building projects from start to finish - a house in Betty's Bay, in the Overberg region on the west coast of South Africa. We will showcase the entire project, including write-ups, sketches, 3D model images and videos and various photos as the project progresses.
